Donald and Anne Skotty, of Silver Mountain
Land & Minerals LP, have established the William G. Skotty
Endowed Golf Fund to support UCR Golf scholarships.
The Skotty Fund will provide a four-year scholarship for a member
of either the men’s or women’s golf teams, and have
alternating four-year cycles between the teams.
"This is an extraordinarily generous gift that will benefit
student-athletes for years to come," UC Riverside Director
of Athletics Stan Morrison said. "It will be a fitting tribute
to Mr. Skotty, who was an avid golfer who embraced the value and
benefits of higher education."
S kotty was a distinguished World War II veteran whose passion
for golf was kindled with weekly miniature golf outings in Los
Angeles. An avid “duffer” he was a long-time member
of the Travelers Golf Association, playing local courses at least
once a week. He attended Riverside Polytechnic High School, where
he played baseball, then was active in community softball leagues.
He was married to former UCR employee Patricia Skotty, who is
an active member of the UC Riverside Retirees Association. He
passed away at the age of 82 in January, 2006.
